Return of Adventures In Blindness

We have been forming a blind peer support group. We get together about once a month at the treasurer of the group's house. His name is Max. Well, it seems our group has the potential to grow. So, we have decided to do more hands on and interactive group discussions. Maybe a blind field trip (LOL)
Today's lesson was up to one of our members, my co-worker George. George has a guide dog and recently went to be trained to use the GPS. So, he showed it around today while we munched on pizza. We always pig out at Max's house, his Mom and Dad and Aunt always cook and help out, they are great.
So, after we packed in the pizza, George programmed an adress into his GPS and we decided to walk around Max's block to find it. We must have been a sight; three of us with our white canes and one with a guide dog. then there's Lilly Lou, she can see fairly well out of one eye. She and SeeMore are a couple, both low vision, nice couple, good friends. So, armed with our blind paraphanelia and styling in our sunglasses, we struck out.
We did quite well, I think. Roller tipped canes hummed over the blacktop and SeeMore tapped along with his marshmellow tip. George and his dog and GPS led the way...Then it happened...
The guide dog had to poop. George stopped and she was going and going. Max kept walking, it was the neighborhood he had grown up in after all. So, I followed. We did quite well on our own. But when George and his dog caught up, there was a neighborhood dog barking its head off at the guide dog. This distracted her and she had to be corrected and that messed up the GPS.
In the end, it was Max that saved the day. He led the straggling ranks back into his driveway. First George and his pooch, then me...finally Lilly Lou and SeeMore brought up the rear.
We were bouyed by are success and headed inside for cake.
All in all, it was a good meeting. We are forming lasting friendships and life long experiences.
